Dangers of Improper Use of UPS Batteries

The dangers and hazards that may occur during battery assembly include poisoning, fire, explosion, high-temperature burning, mechanical damage, and corrosion.

According to the working principle of lead-acid battery, lead-acid storage positive active material is lead dioxide, negative active material is sponge lead, electrolyte is dilute sulfuric acid solution. When the charge to 70% ~ 80% electricity, the positive electrode began to produce oxygen, when the charge is basically completed about 90%, the negative electrode began to produce hydrogen.

Hydrogen is an inflammable and explosive class A substance.  The explosion limit in air is 4.1% ~ 74.1%, and the ignition temperature is about 450℃. Therefore, the concentration of hydrogen in the charging room is easy to reach the explosion limit, and it will produce explosion when it meets the fire source.

When we two different brands of battery or old and new battery mixed use will explode, new and old battery voltage difference is very big, different discharge size and frequency, will lead to the current suddenly big suddenly small and will cause the battery internal pressure increase, when more than it can bear the pressure will produce an explosion.

Although the use of UPS power is a lead-acid maintenance-free battery, it does not mean that there is no need for maintenance. In order to maintain the good operation of UPS power needs personnel to carry out regular maintenance and overhaul, which will involve the damage of the battery.
